Detectives have released new CCTV footage as the search continues for the person responsible for the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Rene Graham in West London nearly a year ago. The footage shows the suspect calmly approaching the park before carrying out the attack and fleeing the scene. Police now believe the answers lie within a small, close-knit section of the local community.

Rene was shot at close range in Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance Park in Ladbroke Grove at around 7:20 pm on Sunday, July 21, 2023. The teenager, who had been attending a music event, died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the chest. The suspect, after firing at Rene, reportedly tried to shoot another person before fleeing.

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has made parts of the CCTV public in an effort to jog memories or prompt those withholding information to speak up. Independent charity Crimestoppers has also stepped in, offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information that leads to a conviction.

Community Silence

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, leading the murder investigation, said the case has been the focus of extensive police work. “Rene was tragically shot dead during a busy community festival. Since then, officers have reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV and taken many witness statements,” she said.

She confirmed a man in his twenties had been interviewed under caution recently, but all avenues are still being explored. “This suspect opened fire in a public park packed with families and children. He not only took Rene’s life but also put countless others in danger. He remains in your community.”

The footage released shows a man walking toward the park and appearing to draw a firearm from his pocket, before entering the children’s play area. He is seen running away seconds later, believed to be after attempting a second shooting.

DCI Foxwell added, “We have made multiple appeals to the local community, and we’re convinced there are individuals who know who this person is. It’s time for those people to come forward. Rene’s family deserves justice and peace.”

Rene’s loved ones remain in mourning as they face the approaching anniversary of his death. Police continue to support them, but the pain of losing a child in such violent and public circumstances has not faded.

Alexa Loukas, London Regional Manager for Crimestoppers, joined the call for information. “Rene was murdered in broad daylight, with more than 200 people present. We know someone saw something or knows something. Even the smallest detail could be crucial.”

She emphasised Crimestoppers’ guarantee of complete anonymity. “We don’t record calls, track IP addresses, or take your details. Your information goes directly to the police without ever identifying you.”

Anyone with details about the shooting is urged to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org. A reward of up to £20,000 remains in place for information leading to a prosecution.
