Bondi revoked city restrictions on immigration enforcement policies that limited cooperation with federal authorities, effectively ending D.C.’s sanctuary protections, and rescinded earlier orders from Police Chief Pamela Smith that had curtailed immigration-related inquiries. The collision involved a car and a truck on a highway in the early morning hours.

Rajnandgaon police said the incident occurred on a rural stretch of road frequently used by trucks. Preliminary reports indicate the car, carrying seven people, was travelling toward the state’s central region when it collided with an oncoming truck. The force of the crash resulted in immediate fatalities for most passengers in the car.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene after local residents alerted authorities.Police and paramedics recovered the bodies and provided first aid to the injured survivor, who was transferred to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The identities of the victims have not been released pending formal notification of their families.

Highway traffic was temporarily stopped for rescue operations and debris removal. Police confirmed that the road was cleared within hours to restore normal movement of vehicles. The truck driver remained at the scene and was taken into custody for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not determined the exact cause of the accident.

Road conditions, vehicle speed, and possible driver fatigue are being investigated.

Police said mechanical inspections of both vehicles will be conducted, and witness statements are being collected to establish the sequence of events.

The incident has highlighted road safety concerns in Chhattisgarh, especially where heavy commercial vehicles and passenger cars share narrow lanes.Local safety advocates urged drivers and transport authorities to enforce traffic rules more strictly, including speed limits and regular vehicle maintenance checks.

The National Crime Records Bureau reports that road accidents are a leading cause of accidental deaths in India, with thousands of fatalities each year. Many involve high-speed collisions or poor road infrastructure, highlighting the need for traffic safety campaigns and infrastructure improvements.

Police assured that all necessary legal procedures will be followed and updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. In the meantime, the bodies of the deceased are being sent for post-mortem examinations at a district hospital.

Rajnandgaon residents expressed grief over the deaths and called for improved safety measures to prevent similar accidents. Authorities are expected to review the area’s accident record and consider further road safety measures.
