A violent home invasion in Melbourne’s north left a resident seriously injured in the early hours of July 24. The incident occurred at a property on Trentham Drive in Gladstone Park at approximately 1:25 a.m., according to Victoria Police.

Police allege that four men forced entry into the home, armed with knives and firearms. During the confrontation, the 60-year-old resident, Kemal Akbulut, was assaulted and sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital for treatment. His cousin, 57-year-old Birsel Akbulut, was also threatened by the offenders with a firearm.

Video footage captured during the alleged home invasion shows multiple offenders inside the residence. In one part of the footage, a man can be seen using a hammer against Mr Akbulut, who can be heard calling for help. Other footage reportedly shows one of the men pointing a gun at Mr Akbulut while demanding money, asking, “Where’s the money?” Mr Akbulut can be heard responding, “I’ll give you whatever you want.”

Police stated that the offenders allegedly stabbed and assaulted the resident, and one of the men reportedly fired a shot inside the home. The footage also shows one individual filming the assault on a mobile phone.

A Victoria Police spokesman confirmed the seriousness of the incident, saying, “The 60-year-old man sustained serious injuries consistent with a gunshot wound and was transported to hospital. The offenders remain at large, and investigations are ongoing.”

Authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Victoria Police. Neighbourhood safety and security remain a priority, and police have increased patrols in the area while continuing to investigate the offenders’ identities and whereabouts.

The incident has raised concerns among Gladstone Park residents, with local community members describing the event as alarming. Police continue to appeal for any video footage or eyewitness accounts that could assist with the investigation.

The investigation into the home invasion is ongoing, with detectives working to identify and apprehend the men involved. Victoria Police have not released further details about the suspects, citing the ongoing nature of the inquiry.

This case highlights the risks of home invasions and the importance of public awareness and vigilance. Police recommend residents take appropriate safety measures, report suspicious activity, and cooperate with law enforcement to prevent similar incidents.
