The leaders also expressed concern regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the humanitarian situation in Gaza, tensions in the South and East China Seas, and instability in Myanmar.

Prime Minister Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced that Australia would formally recognize the State of Palestine at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September. The decision follows engagement with the Arab League and includes support for governance reforms within the Palestinian Authority, such as holding elections and demilitarization measures.

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Defense Minister Conor McKenna conducted a diplomatic tour of the Pacific, meeting with Pacific Island nations. Discussions focused on climate change adaptation, economic development, and regional security cooperation.
