The Jharkhand Police have significantly intensified their crackdown on cybercrime, narcotics trafficking, and insurgency activity during the first half of 2025. Director General of Police Anurag Gupta announced these results at the state’s Independence Day function.

Between January and June, the police arrested a total of 1,200 cyber criminals. Of these, 700 were arrested in direct operations, while 474 were apprehended using the Pratibimb mobile app. Authorities recovered over ₹16 crore related to cybercrime and returned approximately ₹80 lakh to victims under court orders.

On the anti-narcotics front, the state saw 484 drug peddlers arrested, opium crops covering 27,000 acres destroyed, and narcotics worth ₹34 crore seized. Gupta noted that illegal cultivation is being firmly disrupted.

In efforts to bolster women’s safety, the police launched the Mahila Shakti Commando and established women’s help desks and helplines across all districts. These initiatives are aimed at ensuring swift assistance to women in need.

Regarding insurgency, operations have led to the arrest of 197 Naxalites, the death of 17 during encounters, and 10 surrendering voluntarily. The state mourned the loss of four police officers killed in the line of duty amid these anti-insurgency efforts.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) also achieved success, apprehending 12 members of organized criminal gangs and five activists from the banned group Hizb ut-Tahrir (HuT). This reflects the police’s broader focus on countering both organized crime and extremist threats.

Public engagement received a boost through Public Grievance Resolution Programs, which resolved 3,500 of the 4,000 registered complaints. Financial aid was provided via the Jharkhand Police Assistance and Welfare Fund, which distributed over ₹15 crore to 622 beneficiaries. Additionally, 108 dependents of deceased personnel received employment on compassionate grounds.

Recognizing service and leadership, the force promoted 64 Inspectors to Deputy Superintendent of Police, nine Assistant Sub-Inspectors to Sub-Inspectors, and 91 Sub-Inspectors to full Inspectors.

DGP Gupta emphasized that these figures reflect the police’s unwavering dedication across the state in maintaining law and order, improving public trust, and safeguarding citizen security.
