Alaska Air Base Hosts Trump-Putin Summit Flyover

A U.S. Air Force B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, accompanied by F-35 fighter jets, conducted a routine training exercise over Alaska earlier this year. The demonstration of U.S. air power took place near Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, where the aircraft are regularly stationed for strategic readiness.

The event featured a formation that included F-22 fighter jets based locally at Elmendorf. The B-2 bomber and F-35s joined from other U.S. Air Force installations, reflecting standard coordination in joint training missions.

According to U.S. defence officials, the aircraft movements were part of scheduled operations and not tied to any diplomatic summit. The B-2 bomber is regarded as one of the most advanced symbols of American military strength.

Designed to carry both nuclear and conventional weapons, it can fly long-range missions without refuelling. The aircraft continues to be used in readiness drills, but no verified missions such as “Operation Midnight Hammer” have been reported.

The B-2 programme has repeatedly been highlighted by U.S. military leaders, who praise its capabilities and the skill of U.S. Air Force pilots. Senior officers have described the aircraft as “a vital tool” in maintaining deterrence, with scale models often displayed in briefings and public outreach events.

During exercises in Alaska, the presence of the aircraft emphasises both U.S. deterrence capabilities and the symbolic role of American air power in strategic messaging.

While some military officials have described the B-2 as central to maintaining global strike readiness, discussions on long-term upgrades are ongoing. In August 2024, the U.S. Air Force confirmed it is investing in enhancements to the fleet, but no new B-2 aircraft are being built, as production ended in 2000. Alaska has long played a central role in U.S. defence posture, given its proximity to both the Arctic and the Asia-Pacific region.

While the details of classified training operations are not disclosed, the presence of advanced aircraft underscores Washington’s intent to demonstrate strength and preparedness in its global commitments.

The event was part of routine military operations rather than diplomatic protocol, reinforcing the enduring role of U.S. air power in both training and strategic contexts.
