The Prince and Princess of Wales are relocating from Adelaide Cottage to Forest Lodge, a private eight-bedroom residence in Windsor Great Park.

Forest Lodge, a Grade II-listed Georgian house on Crown Estate land, combines historic red-brick architecture with modern restoration. The property, valued at about £16 million, features ornate plasterwork, marble fireplaces, and a vaulted hallway ceiling. A £1.5 million renovation in 2001 restored much of its original character, and new planning approvals show minor upgrades now underway, including window replacements, flooring work, and internal alterations. These are being privately funded by the couple.

Since 2022, the family has lived at Adelaide Cottage, also on the Windsor estate. The upcoming move is regarded as a long-term decision, providing more space and permanence after a challenging period that included the Princess of Wales’s cancer treatment.

The location places the family closer to Lambrook School, attended by Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, while maintaining proximity to Windsor Castle and royal duties. A palace source confirmed Windsor has become central to the family’s daily life.

Unlike many royal households, William and Catherine are not expected to have live-in staff at Forest Lodge. Their choice reflects a preference for privacy and a modern family lifestyle, supported by their decision to personally cover renovation and housing costs rather than relying on public funds.

The move highlights a shift from traditional royal living arrangements. By limiting staff and self-funding household expenses, the couple demonstrates a more contemporary approach to balancing public duty with family life.

For Prince William, increasingly active in royal responsibilities, the stability of a permanent base ensures continuity for both his children and his role. Forest Lodge offers the space, security, and privacy needed for this next chapter.

Located only a few miles from Adelaide Cottage, the residence provides a balance of historic charm and practical functionality. The transition is expected to be complete by the end of the year, with the property set to become the family’s main residence for the foreseeable future.
