Police Scotland Appeal After Racially Aggravated Assault in Glasgow

Police Scotland has launched an appeal for information following a racially aggravated assault in Glasgow that left a man in hospital.

The incident occurred when a 49-year-old man was attacked by another male who also made racially abusive remarks. Emergency services took the victim to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries sustained during the assault.

According to police, the suspect is described as white, aged between 20 and 30, and was wearing a black football top, dark shorts, and trainers at the time of the incident. Officers believe the man got out of a car before launching the unprovoked attack.

Detective Constable Verity Gregg of Police Scotland condemned the assault, stating:
“This has been an unprovoked attack on a man walking along the street. It is completely unacceptable. I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around that time who may have information to get in touch with us.”

Police are urging members of the public who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Investigators are particularly keen to obtain dashcam or doorbell footage from the surrounding area, which could provide valuable evidence to help identify the suspect.

The force has reassured the public that incidents of this nature are treated with the utmost seriousness and that tackling hate crime remains a priority. Officers continue to carry out enquiries and are working to trace the individual involved.

Authorities have not released further details about the victim, but confirmed that his injuries, while requiring hospital treatment, were not life-threatening. The man has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

The incident has raised concerns within the community, with officers continuing high-visibility patrols in the area to provide reassurance to residents and gather additional information.

Police Scotland reiterated that hate-related offences will not be tolerated, and that anyone found responsible for such crimes will be pursued robustly under the law.
