Dera Ismail Khan: Police Foil Bank Robbery Attempt

Police in Dera Ismail Khan successfully foiled a bank robbery attempt on Thursday, arresting one suspect following an exchange of gunfire near a City Circle bank.

According to a police spokesperson, officers received intelligence about suspicious activity outside the bank and responded immediately. Upon arrival, the suspects opened fire, prompting the police to return fire. During the brief shootout, one suspect was injured and apprehended, while another managed to flee by taking advantage of heavy traffic in the area.

The injured suspect was identified as Zahid, son of Azizullah, a resident of Tank district. Authorities recovered a pistol and ammunition from his possession at the scene. He was taken into custody for further investigation.

District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada supervised the operation, while DSP City Muhammad Adnan led the team alongside City SHO Taimur Khan Marwat and Cantt SHO Arslan Khan Gandapur. The swift coordination among the officers played a crucial role in preventing the robbery and ensuring the safety of the public in the busy commercial area.

DSP Muhammad Adnan stated that the arrested suspect was already wanted in several cases, including a significant robbery involving Rs 10 million that took place within the jurisdiction of the City Police Station on July 14, 2025. He assured that the police are actively pursuing the accomplice who managed to escape and expressed confidence that he would be apprehended soon.

Local authorities emphasized that operations against criminal elements in the district are ongoing, and security measures around financial institutions have been intensified to prevent such incidents in the future. The swift action by law enforcement on Thursday was commended by senior officials for averting what could have been a major financial crime.

The suspect is expected to face charges related to attempted robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and involvement in previous criminal activities. Investigations are continuing, and further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
