Chicago, IL, Three people were killed in separate shootings in Chicago overnight, adding to the city’s ongoing struggle with violent crime. Authorities have not yet identified the victims or made any arrests.

The first shooting occurred shortly after 10 p.m., when an individual approached two 38-year-old men standing outside and opened fire, according to FOX 32. Both men were shot in the side and were transported to nearby hospitals, where they later died from their injuries.

Less than an hour later, a 27-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were shot multiple times after an assailant approached them on foot and fired. The woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital, while the man was listed in stable condition.

Chicago police have not released the names of the victims, and investigations into both shootings are ongoing. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has also not confirmed identities.

The incidents come on the same day that former President Donald Trump threatened to expand federal law enforcement efforts in cities experiencing high levels of violent crime. Speaking at the U.S. Park Police Anacostia operations facility in Washington, D.C., Trump emphasized the need for strong federal intervention to improve public safety.

“Everybody’s safe now, everybody feels safe,” Trump said. “It’s our capital and I guess it used to be many years ago, say, but it’s certainly not had a very good run. And you’ve got to be strong. You’ve got to be tough. You’ve got to do your job.”

During his visit, Trump suggested that federal law enforcement could be deployed to additional cities across the country to curb crime rates. “We’re going to make it safe, and we’re going to then go on to other places, but we’re going to stay here for a while,” he said. “We want to make this absolutely perfect.”

The Chicago Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

Chicago has faced persistent issues with violent crime, particularly shootings, which city officials and law enforcement agencies continue to address through both local and federal initiatives. The latest fatalities underscore ongoing concerns about public safety in major U.S. cities and the role of federal support in local policing efforts.

Experts note that urban crime patterns often fluctuate due to socioeconomic factors, gang activity, and resource allocation for law enforcement. While federal intervention has been debated in some cities, officials emphasize that local collaboration remains essential for reducing violence.

The overnight shootings are part of a broader national discussion on public safety, policing strategies, and federal involvement in cities with high crime rates. Authorities continue to investigate and encourage anyone with information about the incidents to come forward.
