Authorities in New Delhi are investigating a security breach after a man illegally entered the Indian Parliament complex early Friday morning. The incident has raised renewed concerns over the safety of one of the country’s most sensitive government institutions.

According to officials, the breach occurred around 6:30 a.m. when the individual scaled a tree and jumped over the perimeter wall near the Rail Bhavan side of the compound. He reportedly reached the Garuda Gate of the new Parliament building before being stopped by security personnel.

This is the latest in a series of security incidents at Parliament. In 2023, two men entered the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors’ gallery, disrupting proceedings by shouting slogans and releasing canisters of yellow smoke, prompting panic among lawmakers and staff.

The current intrusion took place shortly after the conclusion of the Monsoon Session, which ended on August 21. The session, according to the Lok Sabha Secretariat, included 21 sittings and covered more than 37 hours of parliamentary business.

Security at the Parliament complex has been a top priority, with enhanced measures introduced following multiple past incidents of unauthorized entry. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and conducting a thorough inquiry to determine how the individual bypassed existing security protocols.

Officials have confirmed that no members of Parliament or staff were harmed. Security agencies are questioning the suspect and examining all circumstances surrounding the breach.

Lawmakers and security experts have called for immediate reinforcement of physical and electronic security systems around the premises. A senior official said, “This event highlights the urgent need for constant vigilance,” stressing that preventive measures must continue to evolve to address new threats.

The Parliament complex is considered one of India’s most secure zones, housing both legislative chambers and high-ranking government offices. Even minor lapses are treated seriously due to potential risks.

Authorities have assured the public that additional steps will be implemented to prevent similar incidents, with a detailed report on the security failure expected to be presented to the government in the coming days.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials continue to monitor the situation closely.
