Passengers at Adelaide Airport faced significant travel disruptions on Saturday morning as heavy fog forced multiple international flights to be diverted to other Australian cities.

According to an airport spokesperson, three flights were rerouted due to poor visibility. “An AirAsia flight from Denpasar was diverted to Melbourne, and a Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur was redirected to Sydney,” the spokesperson said.

Early morning departures also experienced delays. “While visibility has begun to improve, some departures were impacted this morning,” the spokesperson added. “Travelers should check with their airlines for the latest information as delays may continue.”

Qantas flight QF674, scheduled to depart from Adelaide to Melbourne at 8:00 a.m., was rescheduled to 9:45 a.m. due to the fog. The AirAsia flight from Adelaide to Denpasar was delayed by more than four hours, with a revised departure time of 11:10 a.m.

The fog, which settled across South Australia overnight, disrupted operations not only for international flights but also for domestic services. Airport authorities emphasized that safety remained the top priority in all decisions regarding flight diversions and delays.

Passengers on affected flights were advised to remain patient and stay informed about the latest travel updates. Airlines assisted, including updated boarding information and alternative travel arrangements where possible.

Experts note that South Australia is prone to dense fog during certain periods, especially in the early mornings. Such weather conditions can drastically reduce visibility, requiring pilots to reroute aircraft to nearby airports to ensure passenger safety.

Adelaide Airport officials confirmed that ground operations, including baggage handling and boarding, resumed normal pace as the fog gradually lifted. Travelers were urged to account for potential delays when planning onward connections.

Despite the interruptions, authorities reported no safety incidents resulting from the diverted flights. Passengers were reminded to monitor airline notifications closely, as conditions can change rapidly.

Airline representatives emphasized cooperation between airports and air traffic control centers in managing the rerouted flights efficiently. These measures ensure that disruptions are minimized while maintaining strict adherence to aviation safety protocols.

Travelers are advised to check individual airline websites and notifications for real-time updates, boarding times, and alternative flight options. The airport spokesperson also encouraged flexibility and patience, as residual delays may persist throughout the day.

While fog-related disruptions are relatively rare, Adelaide Airport remains prepared with contingency plans to handle unexpected weather events, including rerouted international flights. Authorities confirmed that normal flight schedules are expected to resume as conditions stabilize throughout Saturday.
