Man Found Dead in Woods Near Truro as Police Launch Murder Probe

A murder investigation is underway in Cornwall after police discovered a man’s body in a wooded area between Truro and St Austell. Two people have been arrested in connection with the case as detectives work to uncover what happened.

The investigation began on Monday, June 30, when officers visited a property in Sticker, near St Austell, as part of a search for a missing man. During their enquiries, police arrested a 39-year-old man from the Sticker area for fraud. However, as the search progressed, new information led to the same man also being arrested on suspicion of murder.

The man remains in police custody. Officers have confirmed that a scene guard will be in place at the property while further forensic work is carried out in the coming days.

The investigation took a dramatic turn the following evening. At around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, police received a report of concern for a man’s welfare in a wooded area between Truro and St Austell. When officers arrived, they discovered a deceased man.

On Wednesday, July 2, police arrested a second suspect, a woman in her 30s from the Newquay area, also on suspicion of murder. She is currently held in custody as detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team continue their enquiries.

At this stage, the body’s formal identification has not yet occurred. However, the man’s family has been informed of the discovery. Police have not released further details about the identity of the deceased.

Detective Inspector Neil Blanchard of the Major Crime Investigation Team addressed the public concern, saying:
“We appreciate that these events may appear concerning to the public, but we would like to ask people not to speculate while we work to ascertain exactly what has happened.”

He added that while officers believe the incidents are connected, there is no indication of any wider risk to the public. Scene guards remain in place at both the Sticker property and the wooded area where the body was found.

Police are continuing to appeal for information as part of their ongoing investigation. They urge anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the areas around Sticker, Truro, or St Austell to come forward.

This case has drawn attention across the region, and with two people now arrested on suspicion of murder, detectives are working carefully to piece together the timeline of events that led to the tragic discovery.
