A 38-year-old woman has been arrested at George Best Belfast City Airport following the seizure of suspected Class B drugs with an estimated street value of £200,000.

The arrest took place on Saturday when officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s (PSNI) Organised Crime Unit intercepted an air passenger carrying cannabis in their luggage. Detectives confirmed that the individual was detained on suspicion of possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply.

Detective Inspector Kelly from the Organised Crime Unit stated, “Today is a clear example of partnership working between agencies within the Organised Crime Task Force (OCTF). This successful seizure demonstrates our ongoing commitment to disrupting the supply of illegal drugs into Northern Ireland.”

The Organised Crime Task Force, which includes multiple law enforcement and border control partners, works to combat serious and organised crime across the region. According to the PSNI, the seizure and arrest highlight the continuing efforts to prevent drugs from entering communities and causing harm.

Following the arrest, the woman was taken into custody for questioning. Police investigations are ongoing, and further details have not yet been released regarding the flight route or the intended distribution of the drugs.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity linked to drug trafficking. The PSNI continues to target organised criminal networks involved in the movement and sale of controlled substances, particularly those attempting to exploit transport hubs such as airports and ports.

Drug-related crime remains a significant concern across Northern Ireland, with cannabis still classified as a Class B drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Offences involving possession with intent to supply can result in severe penalties, including lengthy prison sentences.

This latest operation is part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing the availability of illegal substances and dismantling the infrastructure of organised crime groups. Officials believe that seizures of this scale have a direct impact on the criminal economy and help to protect vulnerable individuals from the harm caused by drug misuse.
