British Veterans Condemn Council After Sudden Eviction Orders in Bolton

Over a dozen British military veterans are speaking out after receiving sudden eviction notices from Bolton Council, accusing local authorities of failing to provide support or justification for their removal. The group, many of whom suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), were told they must vacate their supported accommodation by September, sparking concerns about potential homelessness and a lack of basic support for former servicemen.

According to the veterans, at least 12 individuals were served notices without prior warning or explanation. Speaking with GB News, veterans Andy, Scott, and Gary shared their growing frustrations alongside Councillor Trevor Jones, who has pledged his support. The residents say they were given only two months to leave their accommodation, with no alternative housing or assistance offered.

Scott, one of the affected veterans, said: “We all got served the eviction notice a couple of weeks ago. No explanation, nothing. They told us we’re out by September with no help to get any other properties.” Stressing the severity of the situation, Scott noted that all residents in the facility are former service members dealing with PTSD and were placed in the accommodation specifically for support needs.

Andy echoed those concerns, explaining that he directly asked council officials for the reason behind the evictions and what measures were being put in place to assist them, but received no answers. “The stress levels in this building with all the boys and girls in here are just so high at the moment,” he said. “I’m 53, if I get made homeless, I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

Adding to the frustration, the veterans highlighted the poor condition of their current housing. Scott described the premises as neglected and unfit for vulnerable tenants: “It’s not been cleaned, they don’t decorate. We’re living in an absolutely horrible situation, and now they’re trying to throw us out.”

Their criticisms go beyond the local council, extending to the broader treatment of veterans across the United Kingdom. Scott remarked, “We are veterans. We’ve not come over here in a boat; we’ve served our country, and we’re getting nothing.” He contrasted their situation with the government’s handling of asylum seekers, saying: “If you come across on a dinghy without a passport, there’s a hotel, there’s money, you do whatever you want. We are part of the country, and we’ve got no rights. We’ve got nothing.”

Councillor Trevor Jones, who appeared alongside the veterans during their interview, stated his commitment to their cause: “These lads have put their lives on the line for the country, and this is how they’re treated. It’s absolutely abysmal.” He said he felt “honoured” to step in and support them during what he described as a disgraceful episode.

While Bolton Council has yet to publicly explain the rationale behind the eviction notices, the case has triggered wider concerns about how Britain treats its veterans, particularly those with ongoing mental health challenges. The veterans now face an uncertain future as the deadline to vacate their homes approaches, with little to no support from the very system they once served.
