Ceasefire Collapse: India and Pakistan Exchange Blame After Truce Agreement

Just hours after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire were announced on May 11, 2025, between India and Pakistan, both nations accused each other of violating the truce. India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, reported multiple ceasefire violations, including explosions in Indian-administered Kashmir. Pakistan, however, denied these accusations, with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to the ceasefire. Despite the high-profile agreement aimed at de-escalating tensions, the situation remains precarious, as both sides continue to exchange blame over the violations.

The ceasefire was brokered following a spike in violence in the Kashmir region, which has been a longstanding point of contention between India and Pakistan. The violence had been exacerbated by an attack on tourists that India blamed on Pakistan, leading to retaliatory strikes and fears of a broader conflict. While both countries expressed willingness to engage in dialogue facilitated by U.S. officials, the explosions reported in India-controlled Kashmir highlight the fragile nature of peace agreements in this region. Tensions remain high, with both sides seeking to strengthen their positions.

This situation underscores the delicate balance of peace between India and Pakistan, two nuclear-armed neighbors with a complex history of conflict. International diplomatic efforts are intensifying, urging both nations to adhere to the ceasefire and engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve their longstanding issues. As both sides continue to point fingers, the international community remains hopeful that continued diplomatic pressure will prevent further escalation and pave the way for a more lasting peace.
