Dozens of Dead in Gaza as UN Warns of Genocide

Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have resulted in at least 65 deaths, including 22 children, and widespread destruction, notably the bombing of the European Hospital complex near Khan Younis. The strikes targeted a Hamas command center located beneath the hospital, with the stated goal of eliminating Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar. This escalation has drawn widespread international condemnation, amplifying calls for urgent action to prevent further civilian casualties and address the dire humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.

The United Nations has strongly condemned the violence, with humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher accusing Israel of deliberately blocking essential aid to Gaza. This blockade, now in place for over ten weeks, has led to empty warehouses and a significant reduction in food distributions, dropping from one million meals a day to just 250,000. Fletcher warned that if the blockade and violence continue, the situation could spiral into a genocide, emphasizing the urgent need for international intervention to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe.

In response to the escalating conflict, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called for the UN Security Council to step in and halt Israel’s military actions. The OIC holds Israel responsible for what it describes as a “genocidal war” against Palestinians and urges the international community to take immediate steps to end the violence, open borders for humanitarian aid, and provide protection for civilians. The international community continues to call for an immediate ceasefire and for accountability for those responsible for the ongoing destruction.
