Everton Commence Grealish Loan As Stadium Debut Nears

Everton have secured a season-long loan deal for England midfielder Jack Grealish from Manchester City, as the club prepares to inaugurate their new Hill Dickinson Stadium for the 2025-26 campaign.

The 29-year-old, who joined Manchester City in 2021 for a British-record fee of £100 million, struggled for consistent playing time last season, making just seven Premier League starts. Everton have negotiated an option to buy for approximately £50 million at the end of the loan period.

Grealish has expressed delight at the move, stating: “I’m over the moon to have signed for Everton. It’s massive for me… as soon as I spoke to the manager, I knew there was only one place that I wanted to go”.

Manager David Moyes voiced his optimism at the signing, emphasising Grealish’s experience and potential impact: “I think we’re getting him at a good time… we’re fully aware of the levels he’s capable of performing to,” he said. Moyes further noted the midfielder’s ambition to return to the England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup, a goal the club looks to support.

Grealish will wear the number 18 shirt, a choice that honours Everton icons Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne, both of whom previously donned the same number.

The signing arrives as Everton transition to their new home, Hill Dickinson Stadium, a 52,769-seat venue at Bramley-Moore Dock set to replace Goodison Park. Alongside Grealish, the club has reinforced their squad with several other summer acquisitions, indicating a strategic push to improve on last season’s 13th-place finish.

Former teammate Gabby Agbonlahor suggested Grealish could truly flourish under Moyes’s guidance: “With Moyes, you’re my No.10, you’re playing… Everton could become a team to watch this season”.

While some pundits question whether Everton represents the ideal level for Grealish at this stage of his career, the move offers him a vital opportunity to rediscover his best form and stake a claim for national team selection.
