Feast Returns to Chapel Walk with Revamped Premises and Original Spirit

Sheffield, UK  2 July 2025 One of Sheffield’s most distinctive independent cafés has returned to its original home. Feast, first established on Chapel Walk in 2007, has reopened on the same historic street this time with a fully refurbished interior, upgraded equipment, and renewed ambition.

Located within the recently restored Howard Building, the relaunch follows a significant regeneration initiative led by Sheffield City Council, which invested £250,000 to renovate eight retail units and first-floor offices along the once-bustling city centre passage.

For co-founders Geoff Ward and Colin Gregory, the return to Chapel Walk represents the realisation of a long-held vision.

“When we opened Feast, our goal was to create something a little different, a music shop that sells food,” said Ward, a former HMV area manager. Gregory, previously a member of the indie band The Dylans, helped shape the café’s enduring identity: quality food served in a space defined by musical culture.

Now occupying a larger, modernised unit, Feast 2.0 blends contemporary design with the original values that made it a local favourite. While the space has changed, one signature element remains: the carefully curated soundtrack.

“The music has always been at the heart of what we do,” Ward said. “I take great satisfaction when a customer asks, ‘What’s playing?’ That connection matters just as much as serving great food.”

However, not all musical decisions go uncontested. “Keira, who works on the counter, has strong opinions. There’s a healthy daily debate over the playlist,” he added with a smile.

The return of Feast coincides with broader efforts to reinvigorate Chapel Walk, which was 85% occupied when the café first opened but has since faced challenges common across UK high streets. In addition to the building refurbishment, the council is offering up to £10,000 in ReNew funding to help new and returning businesses fit out vacant units. The latest application round closed in June, with decisions expected shortly.

Ward remains optimistic about the street’s future.

“Chapel Walk has a unique charm and a strong independent spirit. We’re proud to be part of its next chapter,” he said.

With a refreshed setting, an upgraded kitchen, and the same unmistakable vibe, Feast is back and it’s better than ever.
