Under the new approach, more offenders will be fitted with electronic tags to monitor their movements, enabling them to serve part of their sentence in the community rather than in custody. The government will also intensify unpaid work orders, requiring offenders to contribute to local projects such as cleaning public spaces or repairing community facilities.
