Hartlepool Woman Arrested After Stolen Car Crash in Billingham

A police pursuit through Billingham ended in a crash and multiple arrests after a stolen car failed to stop for officers, leading to a serious incident on Wednesday morning.

Cleveland Police say the red Hyundai involved in the crash had been reported stolen. Around 11:10 a.m. on July 2, the vehicle failed to stop for officers and continued driving toward the A19 roundabout before colliding with a white Kia on the A1027.

Inside the Hyundai were three individuals, including a 20-year-old woman from Hartlepool. After the crash, she was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment. Once discharged, she was arrested on several serious charges, including burglary, dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drugs, failing to stop for police, and assaulting an emergency worker.

Two men were also in the Hyundai, one aged 20 from Billingham and the other 24 from Thornaby. Both were taken to North Tees General Hospital, treated, and then arrested on suspicion of burglary. All three remain in police custody for questioning.

The driver of the Kia, a man whose identity has not been released, was also hospitalized at North Tees General Hospital. His condition has not been disclosed, but police have confirmed he was involved in the collision and received medical attention.

The crash left both vehicles damaged and brought significant attention from emergency services. Traffic was disrupted in the area while police and paramedics responded to the scene.

In a statement, Cleveland Police confirmed their ongoing investigation and urged anyone with relevant footage or information to come forward. “We are appealing for any dash cam, phone, or CCTV footage that may help our investigation,” the spokesperson said.

This incident highlights the dangers of fleeing from police and the serious consequences that can follow. While no fatalities were reported, the crash could have easily ended in tragedy.

Residents expressed concern over the rising number of such incidents. “It’s worrying to see something like this happen so close to home,” said one Billingham resident. “You don’t expect a police chase to end up right on your doorstep.”

As the investigation continues, Cleveland Police are working to piece together the events that led up to the collision and determine the full extent of any criminal activity involved.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Cleveland Police directly or provide tips anonymously through Crimestoppers.
