A Honduran national has been sentenced in federal court in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for illegally reentering the United States after being deported on two previous occasions.

Yoni Omar Alvarado-Gomes, also known as Jhonny Ramos Campos, 35, received a 92-day prison sentence followed by one year of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa. Chief U.S. District Judge C.J. Williams imposed the sentence on August 15, 2025.

Court records show that Alvarado-Gomes was deported from the United States in 2009 and again in 2013. On April 26, 2025, he was taken into custody at the Tama County Jail while being held on state charges of driving without a license and speeding. Immigration authorities later confirmed his prior deportations and initiated federal charges.

Alvarado-Gomes pleaded guilty on May 28, 2025, to one count of illegal reentry after deportation. Under federal law, individuals who reenter the United States without authorization after having been removed face criminal penalties, including imprisonment and subsequent supervised release.

The case was prosecuted as part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative designed to enforce immigration laws, target transnational criminal organizations, and enhance public safety through coordinated federal, state, and local efforts. The program works in conjunction with other law enforcement operations, such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods, to disrupt and dismantle criminal networks.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep handled the prosecution. The investigation was conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, with support from the U.S. Marshals Service.

Federal sentencing rules prohibit parole, meaning Alvarado-Gomes will serve the entire term imposed. After his prison sentence, he will remain under court-ordered supervision for one year. Upon completion of the sentence, he is expected to be transferred to immigration authorities for removal proceedings.

Authorities emphasize that illegal reentry prosecutions are intended to uphold U.S. immigration laws and maintain the integrity of the legal process for those seeking to enter or remain in the country.
