Jalgaon SIT Probes Muslim Youth Lynching Tragedy

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing the killing of 21-year-old Suleman Rahim Khan in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, after a mob allegedly beat him to death near the Jamner police station on 12 August 2025.

Khan, from Chhoti Betawad village, was reportedly attacked after being seen with a 17-year-old girl from another community at a café. According to police, a group of men abducted him, assaulted him with sticks and iron rods, and later left him near his home. He was rushed to Jalgaon District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Khan’s father, mother, and sister were also assaulted when they tried to help. His father told reporters that there was “not a single inch on my son’s body without wounds” and called for the harshest punishment for those responsible.

Police have arrested eight suspects. Four were held on 13 August and four more the next day. Charges include murder, kidnapping, rioting, unlawful assembly, and voluntarily causing hurt under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Officials said the SIT will examine all evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements.

The incident sparked protests outside Jamner police station, where locals demanded swift justice. Authorities deployed extra personnel from the crime branch and Nashik Range to prevent unrest.

Former AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel condemned the attack, alleging police urged the family to perform last rites before all arrests were made. Police have not commented on this claim.

The attack took place just meters from the police station, raising questions about law enforcement presence and communal tensions in the area. The SIT has assured the victim’s family of a thorough investigation aimed at bringing all culprits to justice.

This case is the latest in a series of mob violence incidents that have drawn national attention to safety and communal harmony. Officials say they are committed to preventing such crimes and restoring public trust.
