KARACHI, The Additional District and Sessions Judge South has directed police to register a case under Section 154 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) concerning the death of model and actress Humaira Asghar. The court disposed of a petition filed by Advocate Shahzaib Sohail, who sought the formal registration of an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Asghar’s death.

According to the ruling, police are required to record statements from the deceased’s family members and proceed by the law if evidence suggests criminal activity. The court emphasized that a case should be registered under Section 154, which governs the reporting of cognizable offenses to police, and that subsequent investigation must follow established legal procedures.

The petition raised concerns about inconsistencies in the timeline of Asghar’s death. The petitioner claimed that while Asghar was reported dead in October 2024, her body was discovered in July 2025 in a residential building in Defence Phase 6, Karachi. The discrepancy, combined with reports that her mobile phone remained active until February 2025 and that her WhatsApp profile picture was deleted shortly after her death, was cited as grounds for a deeper probe. The petitioner also requested that Asghar’s brother, a makeup artist connected to her, and other individuals be included in the investigation.

Police confirmed that post-mortem procedures had been conducted and that investigators were awaiting the final forensic report. Blood samples and swabs collected from her residence, including the washroom and bedroom, have been documented for forensic analysis. The investigating officer noted that a formal case would be registered if evidence supported allegations of foul play.

The petition named the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South and Station House Officer (SHO) Gizri as respondents, requiring direct involvement of senior police officials in overseeing the matter.

Humaira Asghar’s body was found on the fourth floor of Ittehad Commercial, a mixed-use building in Defence Phase 6. Local authorities were notified immediately, and initial investigative steps were carried out at the scene.

Legal experts observed that the judge’s direction to register an FIR under Section 154 represents a key step in ensuring compliance with criminal procedure. While the order does not assign guilt or confirm the cause of death, it establishes a formal framework for gathering evidence, recording witness statements, and proceeding under due process.

Authorities have said that forensic results and digital records will be central to determining whether criminal action was involved. The next hearing will review the evidence collected so far and guide the direction of the investigation.
