Two brothers appeared in court on Friday, 25 July 2025, as their trial resumed at Liverpool Crown Court following a violent incident at Manchester Airport on 23 July 2024. The trial is being heard in Liverpool, not at Manchester Crown Court.

Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, and his brother Muhammad Amaad, 26, both from Tarnside Close in Rochdale, deny all charges relating to the alleged altercation involving police officers and members of the public.

The trial follows the release of mobile phone footage last summer showing parts of the incident, which took place on July 23, 2024, at the airport.

Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, is accused of beating civilian Abdulkareem Ismaeil inside a Starbucks at Terminal 2, and of assaulting three police officers, PCs Marsden, Ward and Cook, with charges including causing actual bodily harm and assaulting an emergency worker. Amaaz faces four counts against him: two charges of causing actual bodily harm, one count for assaulting an emergency worker (PC Ellie Cook), and one common assault count for the civilian incident in Starbucks.

Muhammad Amaad, 26, is charged with causing actual bodily harm to PC Marsden in relation to the same altercation and denies the allegation.

As the court session resumed on Friday, Judge Neil Flewitt KC addressed the jury, reminding them of their responsibility to base their decision solely on the evidence presented in court.

“It’s highly likely this case will be reported in the media, whether in the press, on TV, radio, or online,” the judge stated. “Although I cannot prevent you from seeing coverage, it is essential that you are not influenced by anything outside of this courtroom.”

He also instructed the jurors not to discuss the case outside their panel, emphasising that their collective interpretation of the courtroom evidence is what ultimately matters.

The trial commenced on 4 July 2025 and is scheduled to last up to four weeks, with closing speeches delivered on 25 July as the case moves into jury deliberation.
