Melbourne, Australia – A 34-year-old man has been arrested following the deaths of Athena Georgopoulos, 39, who was five months pregnant, and her partner Andrew Gunn, 50, in Mount Waverley. Police allege the victims were attacked in their home on Monday evening.

Authorities say items matching those carried by the suspect were recovered at the crime scene. Dashcam and surveillance footage obtained by 7News show a man matching the description of Ross Judd leaving a Bunnings in Notting Hill carrying a stake and a jerry can, roughly 1.5 kilometres from the Mount Waverley home. Minutes later, he was seen approaching Ferntree Gully Road.

Neighbours reported hearing screaming at a home on Adrienne Crescent around 9.55 pm and called triple-0. Police arrived shortly after, and Mr Judd was taken into custody. He appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, charged with two counts of murder.

Reports suggest tension between Mr Gunn and the suspect may have stemmed from disputes over dogs. Mr Judd is known locally for walking two German Shepherds, while Mr Gunn frequently cared for his dog, Dragon. Neighbours said disagreements over the animals may have contributed to the conflict.

Hours before the attack, Ms Georgopoulos shared news with family and friends about the expected gender of her baby, a girl, marking a joyful moment ahead of the tragedy. Her aunt, Patty Dilveridis, described the news as devastating, noting that Ms Georgopoulos and Mr Gunn had been together for around three years and were eagerly anticipating the arrival of their child.

Ms Georgopoulos’ mother, Petty, has expressed her grief in social media posts, remembering her daughter and the unborn granddaughter she was expecting.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and have appealed for any witnesses with information about the events leading up to the deaths. Authorities have also confirmed that the suspect remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.

This incident has prompted concern among residents, with the community rallying to support the families affected by the tragedy.
