Met Police Officer Charged with Multiple Sexual Offences

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with a series of sexual offences, including rape.

PC Robert Wing was charged on Thursday, 24 July, with four counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault.

Wing had been part of the force’s Specialist Operations unit, which provides specialist policing capabilities, including national security and counter-terrorism operations.

The charges relate to a series of alleged offences between 2013 and 2016. All incidents reportedly involve the same victim and are said to have occurred while Wing was off-duty.

Following his arrest on suspicion of rape, PC Wing was immediately suspended on 1 March 2023.

He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 27 August.

The Metropolitan Police has stated that it is treating the case with the utmost seriousness. No further details about the ongoing investigation have been released.

This case comes amid heightened scrutiny of professional conduct within UK police forces. Specialist Operations officers are responsible for sensitive national security and counter-terrorism duties, and this development has prompted an internal review of procedures and vetting practices.
