Pakistan and Micronesia Establish Diplomatic Relations to Strengthen Ties

Pakistan and the Federated States of Micronesia have formally established diplomatic relations, marking the formalization of bilateral ties between the two countries. The agreement was signed at Pakistan’s Mission to the United Nations in New York on August 14, 2025, coinciding with Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and Ambassador Jeem S. Lippwe of Micronesia signed a joint communiqué, officially formalizing relations between the two nations. Senior diplomats from both sides, including Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative Usman Jadoon, were present at the ceremony.

Ambassador Iftikhar stated that the diplomatic ties were established on Pakistan’s Independence Day and noted that the relationship could include collaboration in areas such as human resource development, capacity building, and climate change initiatives. Both countries agreed to coordinate on international matters, particularly within the United Nations framework. Ambassador Iftikhar also noted that Micronesia is the 100th country with which Pakistan has formalized diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Lippwe expressed his support for establishing the new diplomatic relationship and thanked Pakistan for facilitating the opening of Micronesia’s UN offices. He stated his intention to work with Ambassador Iftikhar on cooperative initiatives between the two countries. Ambassador Lippwe also extended his congratulations to Pakistan on its Independence Day.

The development represents a formal agreement to maintain diplomatic communication and cooperation. By establishing formal ties with Micronesia, Pakistan and Micronesia agreed to work on issues of mutual interest, including matters discussed within the UN framework. The relationship provides a channel for ongoing communication between the two countries.
