Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has emphasized that ongoing counterterrorism discussions with the United States will help formulate a comprehensive joint action plan, aiming to strengthen security cooperation and address emerging threats in the region.

On August 15, 2025, Islamabad hosted a high-level meeting between Interior Minister Naqvi and U.S. Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism Gregory LoGerfo. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in counterterrorism, border security, and counter-narcotics operations. Minister Naqvi stressed that the dialogue is crucial for establishing an effective and coordinated response to evolving security challenges, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to international counterterrorism efforts.

The session was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Acting U.S. Ambassador Natalie Baker, and senior officials from both countries, reflecting a shared determination to strengthen bilateral ties through practical security measures. Minister Naqvi highlighted the strategic importance of sustained engagement and joint planning to address both immediate threats and long-term security challenges.

According to Minister Naqvi, the relationship between Pakistan and the United States has improved following President Donald Trump’s election, with both nations showing greater transparency, trust, and readiness to cooperate. He emphasized that this positive momentum creates opportunities to expand collaboration beyond security, including trade and investment sectors, while reinforcing Pakistan’s role as a reliable partner in regional stability.

The U.S. has also acknowledged Pakistan’s proactive measures against terrorism, including the recent designation of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its Majeed Brigade as foreign terrorist organizations. These designations underscore a shared commitment to addressing threats from extremist groups and highlight the importance of coordinated intelligence and operational efforts between both countries.

During the talks, officials discussed strategies to counter emerging and technologically sophisticated threats posed by non-state actors. Both nations recognized the need for adaptive approaches, including enhanced intelligence sharing, technological cooperation, and joint operational initiatives. Minister Naqvi reinforced that terrorism remains a global challenge, requiring collaborative action and consistent engagement at regional and international levels.

Experts note that Pakistan’s geographic position and experience in counterterrorism operations make it a vital partner for the U.S. in maintaining regional security. The dialogue is expected to culminate in a detailed joint action plan that addresses immediate security concerns while providing a framework for sustained collaboration in combating terrorism and related threats.

The planned action plan is anticipated to guide operational coordination, intelligence sharing, and strategic initiatives, ensuring that both countries respond efficiently to evolving security risks. Minister Naqvi emphasized that Pakistan’s engagement in these discussions reflects its commitment to global security, counterterrorism, and the maintenance of regional stability.

As Islamabad and Washington continue their strategic dialogue, both nations aim to strengthen institutional cooperation, enhance tactical readiness, and foster mutual trust. The outcomes of these talks are expected to positively influence regional security dynamics and contribute to broader international efforts to combat terrorism.
