A 32-year-old Australian man has been charged with the alleged murder of his girlfriend following a stabbing incident in Western Australia.

Tobias Marcus Nuttall, from Brigadoon, appeared at Perth Magistrates Court on Friday, August 22. According to local media reports, Nuttall is accused of killing his 30-year-old partner at a home in Bassendean on Wednesday, August 20. He did not speak during the court hearing, except to confirm his identity. Nuttall will remain in custody until his next scheduled appearance on September 17 at Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court.

Police were called to the property on Reid Street around 12:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday following reports of a serious incident. Officers found a woman suffering from stab wounds and rushed her to Royal Perth Hospital, where she later died from her injuries, local outlets reported.

Western Australia Police Force and Perth Magistrates Court did not immediately respond to requests for comment from PEOPLE on Friday, August 22. Investigators, including forensic officers, remained at the scene on Thursday as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Nuttall is known as the co-host of the Waking World podcast, which focuses on the “occult, magick, spirituality, and everything clandestine.” According to the podcast’s summary on Spotify, it is described as “Where Reality Gets a Reality Check.” The co-host, identified only as Dale, informed listeners about Nuttall’s arrest during a recent episode, expressing concern about the impact on the podcast and stating that the charges were “very, very serious.”

Before launching the podcast, Nuttall graduated from the University of Notre Dame and later worked for a recruitment company based in New South Wales, according to local media reports and his public social media accounts.

The court appearance on Friday marked the first official legal proceeding in what authorities are treating as a major criminal investigation. Nuttall’s bail was denied, and he remains in custody pending the next court hearing.

Local authorities have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that further details will be released as they become available. Residents in Bassendean and the surrounding areas were urged to contact police with any information related to the incident.

This case has drawn attention due to the accused’s involvement in public-facing media and the serious nature of the charges. Community members have expressed shock at the events, highlighting concerns about domestic violence and the need for vigilance in local communities.

Police and court officials continue to follow standard investigative and judicial procedures as the case progresses. Updates regarding the trial and any additional charges will be reported by media outlets in accordance with Australian law.
