Rajasthan BJP Leader Arrested in Wife’s Murder

Police in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district have arrested a BJP leader and his girlfriend on charges of murdering his wife, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The accused, Rohit Saini (35), a resident of Kishangarh and a solar panel installer, was detained for allegedly conspiring to kill his wife, Sanju Saini (32). His girlfriend, Ritu Kumar (25), has also been arrested for her role in planning the crime.

Affair Led to Conspiracy

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Deepak Kumar, the investigation revealed that Rohit and Ritu had been in a relationship for two years. Ritu, a divorced private school teacher and mother of a four-year-old girl, had repeatedly pressured Rohit to separate from his wife. Despite warnings from their families, the two continued to meet secretly.

Although Ritu was not present during the attack, police said she played a significant role in the planning.

The Incident

On August 10, Rohit and Sanju visited her parental home in Ralawat village to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. In the afternoon, they left for Silora village to meet Sanju’s brother.

“About three kilometers before the village, their motorcycle was intercepted by alleged miscreants who attempted to snatch Sanju’s jewelry at knifepoint. Sanju was stabbed in the neck during the incident,” ASP Kumar said.

Sanju was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Police Findings

Initially, Rohit told police that two unidentified men had attacked them in a robbery attempt. However, inconsistencies in his statement and the absence of injuries on his body during medical examination raised doubts.

“Under sustained interrogation, Rohit confessed to staging the robbery and admitted to killing his wife with Ritu’s involvement in the conspiracy,” the officer added.

Family Details

Rohit and Sanju were married in 2018 and have a four-year-old daughter, Heenal. Police sources said that Rohit’s extramarital relationship had caused repeated disputes within the family and had recently become known to both households.

Both Rohit and Ritu remain in custody while further investigation continues.
