Sussex Police Appeal for Witnesses Following Alleged Attempted Rape Near North Street

Brighton Sussex Police have launched a thorough investigation after a serious incident was reported in the early hours of Sunday, June 29. A bus driver alerted authorities after a woman claimed that a man attempted to rape her in an alleyway near North Street.

The bus was at Old Steine shortly after midnight, around 12:10 a.m., when a man boarded but soon left the area. Concerned by the woman’s account, the driver immediately reported the incident to police.

Detective Inspector Alice Button, who is leading the investigation, emphasised the force’s commitment to addressing such allegations with the utmost seriousness. “We are actively investigating this report and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who can identify the individual shown in the CCTV footage, to come forward,” she said. “We are also seeking to trace the woman involved and encourage her to contact us so that we can provide the appropriate support.”

Sussex Police have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak with in connection with the incident. The force is asking the public to review the image carefully and provide any information that could assist the investigation.
