A University of Wollongong (UOW) graduate is making his mark in Australia’s logistics sector, overseeing operations at one of Amazon’s busiest delivery hubs.

Sourabh Arya, who completed a dual Master’s in Business Analytics and Marketing at UOW’s Sydney Business School, now works as an Operations Supervisor at Amazon Australia. Leading a team of more than 60 associates, Arya manages the country’s largest delivery station, where thousands of parcels are processed and dispatched to customers each day.

Arya describes his role as a balance of people management and data-driven decision-making. “Using analytics to guide operations while motivating teams is essential for meeting performance and safety targets,” he explained.

His academic training at UOW provided a strong foundation for his career. The university’s focus on analytical thinking, customer strategy, and collaborative projects helped him develop both technical and leadership skills. These have proven valuable in managing large-scale operations at Amazon, where efficiency and safety remain top priorities.

Reflecting on his time in Australia as an international student, Arya said the early months were difficult, balancing full-time study with part-time work and adapting to a new system. He credits strict time management and mentorship for helping him succeed. These experiences, he noted, built resilience that continues to serve him in the fast-paced logistics sector.

Arya also highlighted the importance of adaptability in supply chain management. With automation, predictive analytics, and robotics reshaping the industry, he believes future professionals must combine technical expertise with leadership ability. “Graduates who can work confidently with new technologies and lead diverse teams will be best placed to succeed,” he said.

For students aiming to enter the industry, Arya recommends gaining early exposure through internships, part-time jobs, or volunteering. He stressed that digital tools such as Excel, Power BI, and SQL are essential, but equally important are communication and people skills. “Even small contributions can be recognised and open new opportunities,” he added.

Looking ahead, Arya sees Australia’s logistics industry becoming more data-driven and customer-focused, with inclusivity and teamwork playing a central role in adapting to global changes.

He also shared a personal memory from his time at UOW, serving as an International Peer Mentor. Supporting new students and helping them adjust to life in Australia, he said, was one of the most rewarding parts of his university experience.

Arya’s journey from student life in Sydney to a leadership role at Amazon illustrates how academic preparation, resilience, and adaptability can shape successful careers in Australia’s expanding logistics sector.
