Tasmania Teens Charged Over Invermay Unit Fire

Three teenagers have been charged following a fire that destroyed a residential unit in Invermay, Launceston, late last month.

Emergency services were called to the scene on 26 July 2025, after reports of a blaze at a property on Dry Street just before 8:50 pm. Tasmanian Fire Service crews quickly responded but were unable to save the building, which was destroyed.

Following investigations by the Launceston Criminal Investigation Branch, three youths have now been charged with arson. Police confirmed the accused are 14, 15, and 18 years old. All three are set to appear in court at a later date.

Authorities are continuing their inquiries and have appealed to the public for any further information that may assist. Tasmania Police urged residents who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area on the night of the incident to come forward.

The blaze, which left the unit uninhabitable, has raised concerns in the community about youth crime and property safety. Local residents expressed shock at the destruction, while police stressed the seriousness of arson offences and the potential risks to life and property.

Tasmania Police stated that community cooperation remains vital in preventing and addressing such crimes. “We encourage anyone with information about this incident or similar activity to contact investigators immediately,” a spokesperson said.
