MELBOURNE/SYDNEY, Two women have been found dead at popular seaside locations in Victoria and New South Wales, leaving residents shaken as police launch urgent investigations into both cases.

On Sunday morning, a dogwalker discovered the body of a woman at St Kilda Pier in Melbourne at about 7 a.m. Emergency services were quickly called to the scene, with police establishing a major crime scene that drew heavy attention from shocked locals.

Authorities have not yet identified the woman or determined the cause of death. An SES tent was erected to shield the body, while homicide detectives and water police searched for evidence. SES personnel in protective gear were seen at the scene, underscoring the seriousness of the investigation.

Witnesses said police maintained a strong presence at the marina throughout the morning, while nearby residents expressed disbelief that such a tragedy could unfold at one of Melbourne’s most frequented waterfront destinations.

“This is absolutely horrifying for our community,” one resident told local reporters. “St Kilda is supposed to be a safe and welcoming place to see such a scene here is deeply unsettling.”

Just a day earlier, on Saturday morning, beachgoers in northern New South Wales discovered another body under similarly disturbing circumstances. A 32-year-old woman was found dead at Ten Mile Beach in Iluka, about 660 kilometers north of Sydney and near the Queensland border.

The woman’s body was located around 10 a.m. by members of the public, who immediately notified authorities. Police quickly secured the remote beach, declaring a crime scene as forensic teams began examining the site.

The cause of death remains unclear, investigators have not released the woman’s identity, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

While the two incidents are not believed to be connected, both cases have prompted extensive law enforcement involvement. In Victoria, homicide detectives are leading the inquiry at St Kilda, while in New South Wales, local police and forensic units are handling the Ten Mile Beach case.

Authorities in both states have appealed to the public for any information that may help determine what happened to the women. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage, speaking to witnesses, and awaiting the results of forensic examinations.

The twin discoveries have unsettled coastal communities already grappling with safety concerns. Public reactions on social media reflected a mix of grief and unease, with many residents calling for heightened police patrols in popular recreational areas.

“These tragedies are rare, but they leave a lasting impact,” said one criminology expert. “When deaths occur in open, public spaces, the shock factor is magnified, especially for communities that see these beaches and piers as safe gathering spots.”

For now, both investigations remain open, and authorities have stressed that more information will be released as forensic results become available.
