Two-Year-Old Dies in Whitstable Pedestrian Crash

Whitstable, Kent, A two-year-old boy has died following a collision involving a car and multiple pedestrians in Whitstable, Kent. The incident occurred at 8:24 pm on Saturday, 16 August 2025, at the junction of Harbour Street and Cromwell Road.

Kent Police confirmed that emergency services were called to the scene, where the young child was pronounced dead despite efforts to save him. His family has been informed.

A man also sustained serious injuries during the collision and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police described his condition as serious but stable.

A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue. Officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

In a statement, a Kent Police spokesperson said:
“Kent Police was called to the junction of Harbour Street and Cromwell Road at 8:24 p.m. on Saturday, 16 August 2025, following a report of an incident involving a car and multiple pedestrians. A man suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. A two-year-old child was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin has been informed.”

Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen the collision, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area, to contact them. Passengers on buses travelling nearby at the time are also being urged to check whether they witnessed the incident.

The tragedy has prompted a strong response from the local community. Canterbury City Council released a message of condolence, stating:
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this heartbreaking news.”

The death of the young boy comes during a weekend marked by other tragic incidents involving children across England. In Yorkshire, police confirmed that the body of a 12-year-old boy had been discovered during a search near a river. In a separate case in Cornwall, an 11-year-old girl died after getting into difficulty in the water.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses in connection with the Whitstable crash. Officers stressed the importance of securing any evidence that could assist the investigation and urged members of the public to come forward without delay.

The incident has left the Whitstable community in shock, with many residents expressing their grief and concern at the loss of such a young life. Kent Police confirmed that enquiries remain ongoing and that further updates will be issued as new information becomes available.
