ISLAMABAD, The United Arab Emirates’ Ambassador to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Alzaabi, has concluded his diplomatic mission in the country after nearly seven years of service, marking the end of a period that strengthened relations between the two nations.

On the occasion of his departure, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari received Ambassador Alzaabi at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad. President Zardari extended best wishes for the ambassador’s future endeavors, highlighting his role in fostering closer ties between Pakistan and the UAE. The UAE Embassy in Islamabad shared news of the farewell meeting on its official X account, along with a photo of the two leaders together.

Alzaabi assumed office as ambassador on September 19, 2017. His diplomatic career began in 2004 as an attaché with the UAE’s Diplomatic and Consular Corps. He later served at the UAE’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, before taking on his ambassadorial role in Pakistan.

During his tenure, relations between the UAE and Pakistan advanced across multiple fronts. The two countries saw stronger engagement in economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and political dialogue. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has consistently emphasized the country’s role as one of Pakistan’s largest investors. Bilateral trade has also shown steady growth, with business partnerships and community-level connections playing an important role in sustaining ties.

Ambassador Alzaabi’s time in Pakistan also witnessed continued people-to-people engagement, with the UAE maintaining a strong presence in development, social, and cultural projects. These initiatives further deepened the longstanding partnership between the two nations, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to its allies in the region.

Observers note that the UAE remains a vital partner for Pakistan, not only in terms of investment and trade but also in broader regional cooperation. Shared goals in stability, progress, and mutual support have defined the diplomatic relationship.

As Ambassador Alzaabi concludes his service in Islamabad, the farewell signals both continuity and a new phase in UAE-Pakistan relations. His successor will be tasked with building on the progress achieved under his tenure, ensuring that economic collaboration and political dialogue remain central to the partnership.

For Pakistan, the relationship with the UAE is regarded as of strategic importance. With thousands of Pakistani workers and professionals residing in the UAE, remittances and labor ties form another vital pillar of the bond. Beyond economics, cultural and diplomatic links continue to strengthen mutual understanding.

President Zardari’s farewell remarks underscored the significance Islamabad places on these relations. The UAE’s active role in investing in infrastructure, energy, and other sectors in Pakistan has been acknowledged as a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Alzaabi’s departure marks the closing of one chapter and the opening of another in the long-standing relationship between Pakistan and the UAE. His service is seen as a significant contribution to enhancing trust, understanding, and shared development goals between the two nations.
