UK-EU Strike Landmark Deal: Fishing, Travel, and Defense Reset

On May 19, 2025, the United Kingdom and the European Union finalized a historic agreement to reset their post-Brexit relationship, covering key areas such as trade, defense, and travel. One of the major provisions of the deal is the extension of EU fishing rights in UK waters until 2038, ensuring continued access for EU vessels. In return, the UK has secured reduced border checks for agricultural exports and its participation in the EU’s €150 billion defense fund. Additionally, UK travelers will benefit from faster e-gates at EU airports, making cross-border travel more streamlined and efficient.

The agreement also includes discussions for a youth mobility scheme and the UK’s potential return to the Erasmus+ student exchange program, offering new opportunities for cultural and educational exchanges.
