UK Launches £54 Million Global Talent Program to Boost Science and Technology Innovation

The UK government has announced a new £54 million initiative to attract leading scientists, engineers, and technology experts from around the world. This program aims to strengthen the country’s position as a global leader in innovation and support growth in key areas such as artificial intelligence, green technology, and biotechnology.

The Global Talent Taskforce, established as part of the government’s industrial strategy, will identify and recruit top international researchers, entrepreneurs, and professionals. Over the next five years, the fund will help cover costs related to relocation, visas, and research projects for successful applicants and their teams.

In addition to financial support, the initiative includes fast-track grant opportunities, supported by respected organizations such as the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering. These grants will allow international experts to start their work in the UK quickly, helping to speed up important scientific breakthroughs.

Science, Innovation and Technology Secretary Michelle Donelan said, “This investment is about more than funding research, it is about bringing the best talent to the UK to drive innovation and create new jobs for the future.”

The £54 million fund complements an existing commitment of over £115 million aimed at attracting global talent and supporting innovation across the country. The government believes this program will not only boost the UK’s research capabilities but also encourage job creation and economic growth.

Applications for the first round of funding will open this fall, with more details to be provided by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
