UK Tourists Boost Greek Tourism Spending in 2025

Tourism in Greece continues to rise, with British, German, and American visitors driving a significant increase in spending, according to new figures released for June 2025.

The latest data show tourism revenues reached €3.14 billion in June, marking an 8.8% rise compared with June 2024. This confirms Greece’s position as one of Europe’s most attractive destinations, drawing high-spending travellers from both inside and outside the European Union.

UK Visitors Among Top Contributors

British holidaymakers remain one of the largest groups of international visitors. Their spending, along with that of German and US tourists, accounted for much of the year-on-year growth. Tourism receipts from the EU-27 countries reached €1.74 billion in June, up 5.5% on last year. Meanwhile, arrivals from non-EU countries brought in €1.40 billion, a 12% increase.

The figures highlight not only rising visitor numbers but also higher average spending per tourist, suggesting that travellers are investing more in accommodation, dining, and leisure activities during their stays.

Strong Summer Season

Industry analysts note that Greece’s tourism sector is benefiting from stable demand across its islands and mainland resorts. The summer of 2025 has been particularly strong, with bookings from the UK remaining high, aided by increased airline routes and competitive package holidays.

While Spain and Italy remain key competitors in Mediterranean tourism, Greece’s combination of cultural heritage, beaches, and modern hospitality is securing a greater share of the European travel market.

Impact on the Economy

Tourism continues to play a central role in Greece’s economy, contributing significantly to employment and local development. The June results reinforce expectations of another record-breaking year, with British travelers seen as a reliable source of income for hotels, restaurants, and transport providers.

Looking ahead, officials in Athens are monitoring trends to ensure that infrastructure and services keep pace with demand. The growing interest from long-haul markets, including the United States, further strengthens Greece’s global tourism position.

Conclusion

The 2025 tourism surge demonstrates how crucial international markets, particularly the UK, remain to Greece’s economic growth. With revenues climbing steadily and visitors spending more, the outlook for the sector remains highly positive as the summer season continues.
