Washington DC Trump Visits Police, Military Amid Crime Push

Former President Donald Trump met with police and military personnel in Washington, D.C., on Thursday as part of what he described as an effort to curb rising crime in the capital.

Trump visited the U.S. Park Police Anacostia Operations Facility in Southeast D.C., which has been designated as a coordination hub for federal agencies and National Guard units supporting local law enforcement. During the visit, Trump thanked officers and service members for their work and delivered hamburgers and pizza from the White House.

Accompanied by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, Trump traveled from the White House in the presidential limousine, commonly known as “the Beast.”

“I just want to thank everybody very much for being here,” Trump said during his remarks. “We’ve had some incredible results that have come out, and it’s like a different place. It’s like a different city. It’s the capital. It’s going to be the best in the world.”

The former president spoke for several minutes, emphasizing the importance of strength and determination in addressing crime. “You got to be strong, you got to be tough,” Trump told the group. “You got to do your job. Whatever it takes to do your job.”

Earlier in the day, Trump told a radio interviewer that he planned to join police and military personnel “going out tonight.” However, after his visit to the facility, he returned to the White House.

The deployment of National Guard units was ordered one week earlier, with the president citing what he called a crime emergency in Washington, D.C. Officials have clarified that Guard members are not making arrests directly. Instead, their role is limited to providing support and, in certain cases, briefly detaining individuals before turning them over to police.

Trump also said he is considering sending troops to Memphis in response to reports of crime in the city, though no final decision has been announced.

The administration has positioned the law enforcement surge as a necessary step to restore order in the capital, with Trump stating that the goal is to make Washington, D.C., a safer place for residents and visitors.
