Police are investigating the death of a 32-year-old woman discovered inside a home in Cobram, Victoria, early Tuesday morning. A 45-year-old man, believed to be known to the woman, was arrested at the scene, while two children present inside the property were found unharmed.

Emergency services were called to the residence on Christie Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. Officers located the woman inside and immediately took the man into custody. Detectives from the Homicide Squad are leading the inquiry, supported by local police, and the suspect is expected to be interviewed in the coming days.

Authorities have not confirmed the exact nature of the relationship between the man and the woman. The cause of death has not yet been established, with forensic specialists conducting examinations at the property. Police said the investigation will include scene analysis, interviews with potential witnesses, and efforts to reconstruct the woman’s final hours.

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said the welfare of the children remains a priority. “The children were present inside the house at the time and are safe. They are receiving support as our inquiries continue,” he said. Detectives plan to speak with the children carefully and at the appropriate time to determine whether they can provide information that may assist.

Neighbours described being shocked by the heavy police presence and forensic teams at the property on Tuesday morning. The normally quiet street was cordoned off while officers carried out a detailed search.

Police have appealed to the public for information, particularly from anyone who may have noticed unusual behaviour or suspicious activity in the area overnight. Investigators said community assistance could play a key role in piecing together what happened.

The case has drawn attention because of recent incidents in Cobram. In December 2024, 49-year-old Emma Bates died in the town, leading to a man being charged with negligent manslaughter. That case is still before the courts. Authorities have made clear that there is no evidence linking the two investigations, but both have unsettled local residents.

Police confirmed the current case is being treated as suspicious. No charges have yet been filed, and detectives are expected to continue working at the scene for several days. This will include reviewing CCTV footage from the area and speaking with neighbours. The arrested man remains in custody and will be questioned further as investigators decide whether to lay formal charges.

Cobram, a town on the Murray River near the New South Wales border, is now facing another high-profile inquiry. Local residents expressed concern for the welfare of the children and a strong desire for answers. Police said they remain committed to following all leads to ensure a thorough investigation.
